A little redecorating

Hey, here are some pictures of new arrangements to the apartment~

 This is the "monster claw." We're going to add movie posters and maybe records etc to that wall, too.  It's amazing how much even a string of lights makes our living room brighter.

I just like how these Van Goghs (and two other pictures) are arranged around the bookshelf.

We're borrowing a painting of lamps from Emma's dad, and it's placed right between the bright kitchen and the dim living room. The effect (exaggerated here through editing) is glorious.

We moved our eight-dollars-at-the-thrift-store-corner-piece-of-a-sectional couch right under the window and added some pillows to the very deep windowsill as well. Look at that seating! Cozy~~

Doornknob troubles

Here is an event that occurred on Sunday night. I didn't post it until now, however, for the simple reason that I did not take my computer to the wifi before this. (actually, as I type this, I still haven't, but this introduction is practically timeless--within the week anyway.)

So our doorknob broke and we were stuck inside. We unscrewed the doorknob and tried to pry out the latch to no avail. Finally, there was something that happened with a hammer and it came unstuck. We put the doorknob back on, it seemed to be turning, so we shut the door… and it did the same thing. In the end it was just super irritating and Peggy's boyfriend came over and helped us fix it and it was still doing the thing (meanwhile Bethany and I were climbing out the window to rid ourselves of the claustrophobic/trapped feeling and generally just freaking out). We ended up taping the latch open and deadbolting the door shut and planned to contact maintenance about it. (They came and we have a new doorknob now.)

After that, we planned to watch some Ouran, but ended up discussing the points of Catholicism that Peggy's boyfriend and I didn't understand. It was pretty good. I understand a tiny bit more some of the things I didn't, but I still am not sure I agree with some of the stuff.

Why did I tell you the doorknob story with no musing attached about the nature of life or something? Well, because it's MY blog and I DO WHAT I WANT, THOR!
Also it gives you a peek into my life and is a thing to blog about even if I don't get all philosophical about it. So bye~

Photos from the new place

 This is our wonderful refridgerator refrigerator! (fridge frige WHY ISN'T FRIDGE SPELLED LIKE IT'S SHORT FOR REFRIGERATOR? This is a catastrophe)
Anyway, we thought, why don't people put posters on their fridges? So we're starting a trend.

 Here is my moderny corner of the bedroom I share with Emma. Bright colors and geometric shapes abound.

 Here's Emma's rustic complement to all that new-timey stuff I have.

 This is our dining room. A little mismatched, but it has tile floors which is really nice because other apartments have carpet in the eating areas. Weird.

Finally, a long shot of the living room. We don't have any sort of lighting in there yet except for the lava lamp, so the light from the dining room kind of wafts in and it gets dim once the sun goes down. Before that, though, light comes in those windows full on in the afternoon.

Well, there's my new life! As I mentioned last post, we have no wifi. However, someone who lives near us has a wifi network named "Trogdor." Pretty radical.

General update

Let's see. I moved in with my three best friends. That's super awesome. We have no wifi, which is also really good for us. Right now, I'm sitting in the "clubhouse" area, which means public wifi and air conditioning during this heated part of the day.

I think I will like not having wifi. It means that if I come to the internet, I have to make an effort. It means I will have more time for reading, drawing, all that good stuff.

There is a public printer with a scanner in it, but I can't figure out how to connect... I don't think it's wireless. It's possible that I'll have to use one of their computers and a flash drive... In any case, I'll figure it out. I REALLY hope I can use the scanner.

The business center/clubhouse/office isn't open on Sundays, so if I want wifi I'll have to sit outside by the pool--which SOUNDS really nice. (but yesterday I was eaten by mosquitoes.)

But electronics aren't the biggest thing in the world!

Emma's and my room is pretty neat. As in clean. Which makes me happy. She has soooo many pictures up... I have a few.
The four of us have a table and chairs now. We don't have a lot of food, but I think at least a couple of 'em are going shopping this evening, and my mom is going to bring some stuff on Wednesday.

Speaking of Wednesday! Please pray for me because it's possible that I'll have two job interviews and be meeting a manager that day. Today was a really satisfying day in the job search, even though my bike tire deflated again. I'll need to change the inner tube. Thankfully, everything is still in walking distance... biking just cuts down on the time.
 There were bike lanes on a couple of the streets I used, but since I'm not used to city riding yet, I rode on the sidewalks and walked my bike across the crosswalks like a good citizen. c:

I need to take pictures of the apartment. I'll make another post for that, because to do so I'd need to go back there. I can't even use the pictures I've taken since I did not bring my iPod over here. You'll just have to wait. c:

I was the one who did the inspection so that they know what small damage was already in the apartment and can't make us pay for that. We'll try not to rough the place up, but who knows what will happen in a year... a few corners were bumped in moving and all that.

I may be experiencing allergies for the first time... very very mildly. I had a pressure headache sort of thing yesterday, and things just don't feel the same... well... it's not so bad.

We're all going to have to give each other a lotta grace. And make rules. Yep.

Well, sorry if I bored you, dear readers. But I'm sure some people (le family) are curious. This has been another long and rambly post.

Awesome times + God provides

So yesterday, me an mah gurlz went to sign a lease for our apartment!

...however we discovered that we were supposed to make an appointment, and we hadn't. So we scheduled it for a week later and just hung out all evening instead.

We saw where Bethany and Peggy have been living, ate some foods, took some walks, etc. It was super fun! I think I'm really going to enjoy living there. There are lots of trees, there's wifi at the pool, there's chickens, there's an herb garden, there's Peggy's whole family pretty much... and there's a FREE STUFF TABLE!

We were walking to hang out at the pool when Peggy quickly ushered us back out through the gate. It seemed to me like she had seen an authority and we were in a place we weren't supposed to be (though that was a ridiculous proposition as we were breaking no rules), but it turned out that Peggy had spotted something through a window, so we went around to the free table, and there were three saucepans and two skillets there. WHAAAT?
So cool. We snatched them up. It was a gift from God, no joke. We were all pretty much in awe. I had been saying to Emma a couple weeks ago that we needed a small saucepan and a smaller skillet pan, and there they were. Completely free. And in pretty good condition, too.

It got me thinking about how God has provided for us all along the line. We got our applications and all that started in time, because when my family dropped off our cosign form, there were only about 3 left... that would be available in August!
The staff is being really helpful.
It's a BEAUTIFUL place to live.
It's relatively convenient and I won't need a car to get to places I need to go.
Peggy's family is already there so we won't be stranded all alone.

After that dish miracle we hung out at the pool more.

Having been inside an apartment (not ours, specifically), I know what size to expect, more, and I'm pretty confident that there will not be room for my desk. With a book case and both Emma's and my beds, we will have enough stuff in our room already, I think!
The kitchen is pretty small, but we can make stuff work. I think we're skipping the microwave and going for a toaster oven instead, as it's more useful.

We've decided that the kotatsu (which I need to get Dad to help me build) would be our coffee table. It makes sense, as kotatsus are floor tables and this is western culture... but everyone's pretty excited about tables with heaters in them, especially Peggy and Bethany (they get cold a lot.)

I'm so excited to just pack all my stuff in boxes already. Goodness. I know I don't need to yet, though.
I'm also even more determined now to leave things behind that I don't need. Those apartments will seem small if there are four people with too much stuff. XD

Also, we saw our future home from the outside! We have a yard! (sort of) There is a big rock in the middle and of course we have to share it with the neighbors, but there's this lovely patch of grass just in front of our building. And plenty of porch space for bikes... We even have an upstairs apartment which means BALCONY! The only downer is that it looks like our balcony is adjacent to our neighbors'... which basically means we share one and there's a divider down the middle. Could be awkward. Hope the neighbors are cool.
